The Most Beautiful Quilt

When you and I will
Interlace our fingers.
It will be the first stitch
On a new block
Adding to the pattern.
Each block before
A person from the past.
But they didn't last
Long enough to finish the seam.
My greatest work yet
An unfinished quilt
Tracking my unfinished life.
Not all the seams
Will be sewn shut,
Because it was a road
That had not been finished.
But the seams that are finished
Will outshine the torn parts.
Just like in my life.
